My favorite author of Christian Fiction and Christian Bible Study is none other than the amazing Liz Curtis Higgs.
I can’t recall when I was first introduced to her writing, it was probably close to 20 years ago. I came across a second-hand copy of her book One Size Fits All and Other Fables (which came out in the early 1990s!). I loved her encouraging words as a fellow “Rubenesque” woman.
Then I was introduced to her fiction series that included the books Thorn in my Heart, Fair is the Rose, Whence Came and Prince, and Grace in Thine Eyes. These books were fictitious retellings of the stories of Jacob, Leah and Rachel in the Bible. The 4th book is based on Jacob and Leah’s daughter Dinah (Genesis 34). The series is set in 18th century Scotland.
This series changed my life. Yes, that sounds a little dramatic, but it’s true. It was this series that made me realize maybe I could try my hand at writing for real. I fired off an email to Ms. Higgs, thinking it would never be seen, but to m
y surprise she emailed me back. Full of encouragement and grace, she bolstered my confidence enough for me to start writing War Torn Heart.
Since then I’ve done several of her Bible studies, read more of her books and been an avid Lizzie fan for as long as I can remember.
If you happen to read this, Ms. Higgs, thank you from the bottom of my heart. My prayers are with you as you continue to battle cancer. May the Lord hold you in his hands always.
